aesthetically speaking: feather trend

over the years at rummage, we have been very partial to vintage peacock decor because we love the design and colors that are found from the plumage of these fine feathered friends! lately, we’ve been seeing that feathers themselves are emerging as a trend not only in fashion, but also in the home. everything form art to decorative elements are making use of feathers in very beautiful and whimsical ways. you know what they say, birds of a feather flock together! so, whose loving this trend as much as we are? let us know in the comments!

project diaries: get the look from molly sims’ home featured in lonny

in this installment of the project diaries, we take a look back at molly sims‘ home which made the march cover of lonny! such a fun project for the kpi team to work on! if you haven’t viewed the story online, be sure to visit the magazine’s website for many exclusive pics here to get a complete view of what kishani designed for molly and her growing family. if you loved the feature, guess what? you can actually buy many of the exact or similar pieces from rummage directly! some require a bit of lead time, so always consult with our shop directly to get exact information for the item that you are choosing! hope you enjoy these pieces as much as we love them having them in our inventory!

molly sims and kishani perera via kishani perea blog

molly and kishani have worked together on several homes, but this one was particularly special because it is the home that molly is raising her family.

blue and green drip glaze lamp via kishani perera inc.

saturated colors from the accessories, lighting and wall art make the living room really pop against the neutrals! this mid-century blue and green drip glaze lamp is very similar in shape to the one in the living room. if you love the style, you have to view our wonderful inventory of additional drip glaze items here!

bristol side table via kishani perera inc.

isn’t this a beauty? we love the bristol side table designed by kishani for molly’s living room! it is made of wood with an antiqued mirror top. the great thing about this piece is that we can make it custom in size and with different finishes if you have a specific design need!

mud-cloth textiles via kishani perera inc.

tie dyed textiles are so popular right now! we love the options kishani used throughout molly’s home, but these mud-cloth textiles in yellow, orange, green and purple are equally perfect for injecting your home with color this spring! if these textiles speak to your design sensibilities, we can create custom pillows using one or more of these options!

cadogan coffee table via via kishani perera inc.

if you did a double take when you saw the cadogan coffee table in molly’s living room, we don’t blame you! another of our favorite pieces designed by kishani herself! we particularly love the bulb turned legs! such a handsome piece for any home!

derby poufs by kishani perera inc.

two items not shown in the living room photos of molly’s home, but we would be remiss not to mention are these gorgeous derby poufs! the nailhead trim details that kishani added to the overall design are so striking! we can easily custom design these in other sizes and fabrics too!

albin mobile in earth tones via kishani perera inc.

every baby needs a mobile over their bed! the handpainted neon one in little brooks’ room was so unique and artistic that kishani made sure to design another with earth tones. and yup, you guessed it…custom orders are available in either color wave through our shop!

thanks for reading our “get the look” feature into molly sims’ home! what’s your favorite piece designed by kishani? let us know in the comments!

our week

this week has been exciting at the kpi offices! we are finally bringing on board another design assistant to keep up with so many new projects. we might just grow right out of this office! time for kp to get serious about the backyard pool office she kind of promised us. we’re the creative kind, we’re more productive in natural surroundings, right? well until then, we’re enjoying our brick and mortar set up and being surrounded by the awesome vintage home goods in rummage. which by the way, hosts regular flash sales for you to snag up some of our fave pieces for a crazy good price! follow them on instagram and twitter to keep up!

speaking of keeping up, we didn’t even tell you we just completed two projects! one is los feliz and another in west hollywood. two very different projects, but both turned out so incredible, we cannot wait to share. photoshoots happening soon! on a sad note for the week, our little gus man had to undergo the inevitable manhood surgery this week. don’t worry, he is spoiled enough so we know kp is taking extra special care of little man! in the meantime, we’ve been busy collecting some of our fave links for the week to share with you! as always, be sure to follow us on twitter and like us on facebook for great links and updates throughout the week!

cheers to a wonderful weekend full of fresh spring flowers! – dh

little man, big cone! poor gus after his surgery. we’re just glad it all went well and he’s doing great!

this daybed for pups is just adorable! talk about working a pet’s comfort into your home design!

it is spring and we’re in full flower mode these days! from sunday plant shopping for the yard, to dining table arrangements. we’re loving inspiration like this!

we love black and brass bathrooms these days. we also love that this hotel was daring enough to go for it!

did everybody else see this table floating around the internet this week? love the unexpected mix and design!

sometimes there is a quote that really is so simple, and spot on! we don’t think you lose the fear, but you certainly learn how to push it aside!

spotted in the nytimes last week is a new animal show on pbs that is certainly one of a kind! will you be watching?

coffee lovers and gluten-free consumers unite! we are extremely excited to try this out.

our week

these past few weeks have been a constant flow of positive, yet undeniably chaotic days! with 75% of our projects in the beginning phases, we have been pushing ourselves creatively in every direction and finding inspiration everywhere. we really love the ‘inspiration gathering phase’ of our projects, especially when we have multiple projects from one end of the design spectrum to the complete opposite end! it gives us the opportunity to utilize the best moments in every design period, and mix in the best of today’s trends, for that lived-in yet updated look kp is known for. this time is also when we have the chance to explore and discover new sources, which today seems to be an endless realm of gems! speaking of gems, we said goodbye to our lovely lynne this week, as she begins a new adventure exploring the country a bit with the man in her life! wishing her all the best, and excited to welcome amelia onto our team here! so far the change has been seamless, so we’re taking that as a great sign of things to come. on the note of great things, we are excited to share some great things the kpi ladies stumbled across this week and had to share! we hope you enjoy them as much as we do, and as always be sure to follow us on twitter and like us facebook for updates all week long!

wishing you all a lovely weekend full of cooler temps and relaxation! -dh

imagepetey man and kp enjoying some snuggles and sunshine while working in the backyard!

this little girl’s bedroom is too cute! plus, she shares so many of the diy projects here, so anybody can totally tackle some fun projects.

three of our favorite things are happening here: vegan, ‘cheesy’, and carbs. yes please on these breadsticks for a weekend indulgence.

this wonderful tumblr is a current fave! we have been scouring it for inspiration for a new mid-century project we are starting!

at kpi we are big fans of symmetry, but this trend has us contemplating some fun, daring decisions. the flooring designs are our faves!

in la we are lucky to have so many incredible hotels, but even better are the gorgeous bars and lounges they house! this list is a great guide to check out some new places to unwind.

with limited counter space and a love of copper, someone in the office made an impulse splurge for one of these as a fruit holder!

recently added to our wanderlust list is this breathtaking ‘tunnel of love’ which is a perfect example of natural architecture.

from the floors, to the paneling, up to the molding, and over to the chandeliers; this apartment has some seriously gorgeous details.

we love these hotel animals! we like to think we have a similar set up with our ‘shop pugs’ because people love visiting with the pups when they’re at the shop!

our week

we cannot believe march is almost over already! we hope that no one suffered any losses in our monday morning quake here in la. one of our cabinets was slightly scratched up after a sconce fell and broke one of our newest candlesticks. thankfully, this was all the damage, but still a little sad. speaking of the shop, our wonderful shop girl, lynne, will be leaving us for a new adventure! while we are so very sad to see her go, she has some pretty exciting plans coming up so we can’t help but be happy for her! this of course means that rummage is looking for a new candidate with a positive, team player spirit and a love for all things vintage! see our post here for all of the details and spread the word. we will be scheduling interviews this weekend and enjoying a little cool down in the weather! kp and the pups are enjoying their new yard to the fullest, and petey man has finally joined the enthusiasm for grass! as an adopted guy, we aren’t sure what his previous experience with a backyard was, but it took him a few months to warm up to playing in the yard. be sure to follow kp on instagram and twitter, and like us on facebook for plenty of pug photos and project progress photos all throughout the week!

wishing everyone a wonderful and relaxing weekend! – dh

this guy, with his beautiful colors and patterns, was hanging out at kp’s house

somebody in the office has a weird obsession of matches, but we do have to agree that these are kind of a must have!

we just bought some of these adorable knobs for a client’s playroom! can’t wait to have them installed!

we’ve been swooning over these vibrant and seriously affordable vintage inspired vases all week!

someone is working on a gallery wall and this mondrian inspired print is a perfect addition!

we think this simple succulent wreath would make for a great housewarming gift for someone this spring!

this insider’s guide to los angeles includes kp’s favorite park, and just gave us a few new restaurants to check out

one of the next museum exhibits we are itching to get to is this one at the autry right now! has anybody been already?

just a silly gift for that nerdy man in your life! a great piece for him to keep on his desk and think of you!

our week

where did the first two weeks of march go?! these past two weeks flew by, but wow are we exhausted! last week kp jetted off to nyc for a few days for a shoot with elle decor! uh, can we say ecstatic, honored, and so grateful? we cannot wait to share all of the details with you, and don’t worry, the wait won’t be long at all. the rest of us have been shopping and searching high to low for all of the perfect pieces for three wonderful clients. with two homes close to completion and the third just moved into, we are getting right into that time of ‘ah, finally we can see all the hard work’, which we all know is the grand prize! not to mention, the appreciation of clients who now get to enjoy their homes to the fullest! this week has also been full of wonderful events! wednesday night kp attended the arteriors opening, and last night we all ventured to downtown for the one king’s lane and hunter’s alley event! on another high note, the shop has been busier than ever recently and, as bittersweet as the letting go of our favorite objects can be, we are pretty excited to bring in fresh finds for you. if you haven’t checked in lately, stop by the rummage site to see many new pieces, and some great sale items. as always, be sure to follow us on twitter and like us on facebook for updates all throughout the week!

cheers to enjoying a sunny and beautiful weekend ahead! – dh

just our bundled up beauty braving the cold in nyc!!

somebody has a real obsession with st. germain liqueur and might be a wine-o, so this cocktail should just be named after her.

i mean, we aren’t so much the rustic types, but check out all of this perfectly, gorgeous stained cement. absolutely a wanderlust list addition!

rummage is now on chairish! check out some serious steals featured on this exclusive site!

ever struggle with finding the perfect pillow combo for your sofa? kp shared her secrets with family circle to ease all of your worries!

these shelves are very scandinavian, but could be worked into so many different styles of decor. we absolutely love the unique design!

we are so in love with what this photographer is doing! our favorite creative people are those using their talent to make a real difference!

of course we had to share these andy warhol pug prints we stumbled across. do you ever see a pug and not immediately say ‘awww’?

we’re going way back on one of our favorite blogs and swooning over this adorable outdoor space all over again!

this art installation in a lake is so simple and unique. it is always inspiring just to see what other people create, and recognize how differently our minds work!

one of the ladies was hunting for a housewarming gift for a guy friend, and pretty sure these nailed it! how funny!

our week

phew! we are a little behind here, but as you can guess, it is because these past few weeks have been insane! a few of us got hit with the flu at the exact time we got hit with new projects and demanding deadlines. that is always how it happens, right? sickness hits at the most inopportune times. the good news is, we are all back to 100% and there has been nothing but positive, exciting things brewing at the kpi office! if you missed the pugs’ first official press feature, you need to check it out here! those sweeties of ours are doing great and loving their new home. while someone in the office is super excited to dog sit the cuties while kp sneaks away for a top secret trip. don’t worry, details of this will come very soon! we must admit, with all of our site visits and slab yard explorations behind us for the week, we are all guilty of fully enjoying this rain for the weekend. speaking of slab yards, we loved this article covering alternate options to granite countertops. there are so many, and a few of our favorites are limestone, soapstone, and quartzite. we have stock piled so many other great finds to share with you below! as always, be sure to follow us on twitter and instagram, and like us on facebook to keep up with us all throughout the week!

hoping you all get to stay cozy inside and enjoy the rainy weekend! -dh

kp visited gracias madre recently and loved it! their menu is comprised of local, organic, non gmo, vegan, mexican food!

talk about a yummy complete package!

we keep seeing these little copper mugs and picturing them in our cabinets! they’re a total steal. worth the not-so-impulse purchase?

this just gave us all a good chuckle and we all agreed on these realities!

talk about a gallery wall! we love the daring mix of vintage frames on this packed photo wall! (third photo)

just this incredibly adorable panda photo we came across on pinterest. is this real life?!

we are so anxious to see how this will all turn out! would you purchase this if it was 100% safe?

kp was featured in house beautiful’s march issue! we are so grateful to have been selected!

have you heard?! three new target collaborations are coming from top pinners: oh joy, poppytalk, and wit & delight. here is the first peek from oh joy’s collab!

we aren’t much for the quotes and saying prints, but these lighthearted and simple pieces might make us think twice. we love a little unexpected humor!

one of our favorite custom rummage chandeliers sold this week! always bittersweet, but thankfully we can always custom make a new one!

this. scarf. enough said. actually no, ‘sale’ was another essential word! someone purchased this just in time for the cold and rainy weekend!

aesthetically speaking: copper accents

it has been the year of brass it seems, and we have loved every minute of it! but just as the seasons are changing, so are the trends! we are seeing more and more copper accents and are excited about this subtle, but interesting change. while brass lends its compliments to jewel tones and black, copper seems to fit better with lighter neutrals and white. it has a softness to it, while still being a wonderful bold and shiny accent! from pendants, to vases, you can even find a copper chair if you’re feeling brave enough! we are welcoming this trend with open arms and are excited to share with you some of the inspiring images we are seeing everywhere! plus we’re sharing some of our favorite copper finds to help you incorporate this trend into your own home!
