our beloved office dog, and unofficial kpi design assistant and mascot, bob, passed away this week.  we will greatly miss his little barks, sweet smile, and gentle soul.  although we are deeply saddened by this loss of our dear friend and companion, we wanted to turn our sadness into something that could potentially help other dogs. although bob was adored and given everything that he could ever want or need, not all dogs are as lucky.

thousands of neglected, abused, and abandoned dogs can be found in los angeles (or any city) on any given day, either in the shelter system hoping for a second chance, wandering the streets trying to stay alive, or in the hands of owners who don’t love and care for their pets as they should.  the task of trying to save these dear angels falls squarely upon the shoulders of rescue organizations who try desperately to help as many of these poor souls as possible. there aren’t enough rescues to save them all, however, we do everything we can to help support them continue the wonderful work that they do on a daily basis.

from needing fosters homes, to funds for vetting, food and shelter for these dogs, they need assistance.  we urge you to take the time to visit some of our favorite animal rescue organizations websites, (or any reputable rescue organizations site),  and become familiar with their cause and mission. you can donate if you would like, or even consider opening your home to one of these pups who want nothing more than a home to call their own.

1. best friends animal society

“nearly 30 years ago, when best friends helped launch and pioneer the no-kill movement, over 17 million homeless pets were dying in our nation’s shelters. today, that number is down to around 4 million unnecessary deaths annually – that is tremendous progress, but best friends is committed to reducing that number to zero. it’s a mission that we call no more homeless pets. by partnering with local governments, grassroots organizations and passionate individuals, we are making big strides toward ending the unnecessary killing of shelter pets in the united states.” (source) 

2. leave no paws behind

“leave no paws behind is a 501 (c) 3 non profit corporation governed by the laws of the state of california. we are an all breed rescue, specializing in seniors and pets with special needs. when possible we step up, most times in the “11th” hour when all hope is gone, to help save the lives of those that are in most danger of being left behind to die on a cold shelter floor. lnpb provides hospice care, comfort, love and a safe haven for the terminally ill and the hard core cases and we try to assure that no senior animal is left to die alone wondering” (source) 

3. pug nation rescue of los angeles

“PUG NATION rescue of los angeles is a non profit organization dedicated to the rescue, care, and placement of abandoned, neglected, unwanted, displaced and abused pugs, giving them a second chance in a loving and caring “forever” home. we’re all volunteers who donate our time to make a difference in the pug world. It’s a constant financial struggle so your donations are most appreciated.” (source)

there seems to be something truly special about this place, it’s got personality but it isn’t pretentious and the fact that the vegetables and herbs served at the hotel come from the hotel’s very own organic garden definitely is an added bonus. and have you seen the hotel bathrooms? swoon-worthy to say the least! let’s just say we’re brushing up on our portuguese…

every project i embark on with a client is equally unique and exciting. this particular project was a blast to work on. our client did not want to shy away from fun, bold colors which is always ideal for me! we set out to create an inviting and masculine ambiance, utilizing unique and vintage finds to add that extra layer of interest. another plus with this project was that this client wasn’t necessarily pinned down to one era or style of design, which allowed us the freedom to create a space that incorporated a mix of pieces, resulting in a uniquely fresh environment filled with pops of color.

this project was so much fun to work on! a combination of bohemian and feminine accents gave this hollywood hills home such unique character. i loved mixing patterns and colors from the wallpaper to the pillows, and a fresh palette of black and whites with pops of color let the lush outdoor garden spaces shine. the mix of unique elements and flea market treasures resulted in a charming hideaway nestled into the hollywood hills.
