layering rugs!

layering rugs is a great way to add color, define a space, and have some fun. it’s an especially great way to make a small vintage rug work in a space where you might  actually need more floor covering. we’re always finding the most amazing vintage and antique rugs that are at times small or an awkward shape, and now we can make them work without worry!

our favorite thing to do is layer a vintage, patterened rug over a large natural rug, like a jute or seagrass. but you can actually layer flatweaves on flatweaves, wools on dhurries, or even naturals on naturals, let your imagination run wild!

June MommyBlog Two Oh Twelve shows off a beautiful space using two rugs with similar coloring, we love that!

another great interior illustrating this idea was posted by Sharart Design where a vibrant flatweave was layered on top of a natural fiber rug!

it works for all styles including this beachy interior on House of Turquoise.

love the brightly colored kilim layered in this interior shown on  Apartment Therapy

Color Outside the Lines had some fun with animal print and their rugs.

on center or off center it look good anyway, thanks Design Sponge.

we love layering rugs and you will too!
